Session Eleven ” Growth Pathways in the Third Sector “

As part of the comprehensive program for training youth in climate action (2024), a special discussion session was held on the evening of Wednesday, July 3rd, focusing on “Growth Pathways in Third Sector Institutions.” The session featured academic researcher and founder of the Aman Initiative, Mr. Hamza Al-Ansi, and was characterized by positive interaction from the participants.

Mr. Hamza Al-Ansi began the discussion by introducing energizing exercises on important topics related to the environment and climate action, such as the UN’s (30/30) decision regarding environmental conservation and biodiversity by 2023, along with other environmental knowledge.

He provided definitions for the first, second, and third growth sectors. The first sector refers to formal institutions, the second to private institutions, while the third encompasses informal bodies such as civil society organizations and non-profit development institutions. He noted that the terminology varies by country, being referred to as the volunteer sector, philanthropic sector, non-governmental organizations, independent sector, and others due to differences in founders, legal environments, and contributions from management and political scholars, as well as global naming conventions.

The founder of the Aman Initiative elaborated on the growth pathways for third sector institutions and the importance of achieving a competitive advantage within their operational framework. He emphasized the need for diversity in all its dimensions when building a team based on a shared culture and values, ensuring that everyone works towards achieving these goals in practice, alongside equality of opportunity and participation.

Mr. Al-Ansi encouraged third sector institutions to establish partnerships with relevant organizations, highlighting the moral and material benefits that these partnerships can provide to civil society institutions in achieving their objectives.

The comprehensive program for training youth in climate action (2024), launched by the National Forum for Environment and Sustainable Development in partnership with Jerash University and the Arab Youth Network for Sustainable Development, along with the Aman Initiative in Jordan, is the first training program of its kind in the Arab arena.
